World’s First Brand Name Product – Ennion’s Glassware

Ennion made me. Those were the words molded on glass vases and jars that survived centuries of dust, change, and trauma all over the classical world. But who was Ennion? And how, in the early years of the world, did his glassware become so famous? We don’t know much about him: He was a craftsman in modern-day Lebanon, and a revolutionary one at that. Ennion was the first (known) glassmaker to blow glass into a mold, forming the molten glass into fine decorative details and unusual shapes. This was unheard of, and it made Ennion into a commercial phenomenon in the Roman world.
But Ennion wasn’t just prolific. He was also proud, and smart, and knew the value of what 21st century consumers think of as a “brand name.” So unlike many craftsmen and women, Ennion didn’t just sign his pieces or put his name on the bottom: He made his name part of the work. You’ll see the Greek letters for “Ennion epoiese,” or “Ennion made me,” framed by a jug (meta!), as though the words and jug were the whole point of the design:

I noticed something strange in an email from Puritan’s Pride (the vitamin folks) – Horny Goat Weed with Maca. I’ve never heard of Horny Goat Weed, nor Maca. The label says that it is an “Erotic Herb For Men”. Apparently, this is a thing, but… NO thanks! At least it isn’t Horny OLD Goat Weed.
You can buy it now from Puritan’s Pride HERE.

Vivaldi – A New Browser – FreeFile Review
Published March 18, 2015 Free File Review Leave a CommentTags: FreeFile Review, freeware, Linux, Mac OSX, Opera browser, software, Vivaldi, web browser, Windows
Vivaldi is a new browser, from the people who were responsible for the Opera browser. It is currently a technical preview, not a finished product. It can run on Windows, Mac, and Linux.
What Vivaldi does well –
Render pages – Vivaldi does an excellent job in rendering web pages. I found no issues on how pages were displayed. The user interface is customisable with some innovative features – some good (a Tools Panel that can be displayed on either side) – some not so good (History is a trash can icon near the minimize/maximize/close buttons). A Notes app with a Screen Capture tool is included in the Tools Panel.
Now, the bad news –
Most of the issues I had were mostly minor annoyances, however, when one spends so much time in the browser, little problems become major issues. The browser will not open to the home page; it opens to the last page viewed. The Bookmarks Panel does not remember settings (scroll down the bookmarks, go to another panel, and when you return to the bookmarks, it is back at the top of the list). Inconsistency – some items require a double-click to activate, others activate with a single click. The Screen Capture tool can only be activated by creating a new note; Screen Capture should be a stand-alone tool in the Tools Panel. Support for extensions is promised, but it is not available now.
– – – – The Bottom Line – – – –
Vivaldi shows promise, but it is not ready yet. With security being so important, I cannot recommend an unfinished browser. Perhaps someday, Vivaldi will be a top-notch browser, but today is not that day.
