McDonalds Names Their Chicken McNuggets

mcnuggetsTIL McDonald’s  Chicken McNuggets are manufactured in 4 distinct shapes that have been named – Ball, Boot, Bell, and Bone (or Bow-tie).

BusinessInsider reports –

The McDonald’s sensory team explained that Chicken McNuggets have four distinct shapes and in order to have a chance to meet the McDonald’s “Gold Standard” for quality, they have to match them as perfectly as possible. And each of those shapes has its own name. Here are the four shapes of Chicken McNuggets, according to Barbara J. Booth, director of sensory science at McDonald’s USA: Ball, Bone, Bell, and Bone.

Exact Replica Of The Titanic Planned

According to RawStory –

Flamboyant Australian tycoon Clive Palmer unveiled his plan Tuesday for building a perfect replica of the Titanic — plus a lot of extra lifeboats. More than a century after the original, supposedly unsinkable ocean liner hit an iceberg and went down in the North Atlantic, Palmer thinks the time has come to complete the unfinished journey to New York. “The Titanic was the ship of dreams. Titanic II is the ship where dreams will come true,” Palmer said in New York at the project’s official launch.

Rebuffing public skepticism about the project, Palmer said a contract could be signed with China’s CSC Jinling Shipyard within days, with construction starting by the end of this year and the launch in 2016. He wouldn’t say what it will all cost.

Asteroids Can Be Redirected With Spray Paint

asteroidPhys.org reports –

There is research that is off the wall, some off the charts and some off the planet, such as what a Texas A&M University aerospace and physics professor is exploring. It’s a plan to deflect a killer asteroid by using paint, and the science behind it is absolutely rock solid, so to speak, so much so that NASA is getting involved and wants to know much more.

Classic Newspapers – The Big Snow of 1982

Most St. Louisans (at least the ones who are 40 or older) remember the snow storm of 1982 as the ‘Big One’ that virtually shut down the city. A week after the storm, the Post-Dispatch published a special section covering the event. All 12 pages of that section have just added to HotMeatloaf.com.

World’s Smallest Street Legal Car – Peel P50

p50smPeel, of the UK, hand builds reproduction models of their classic 1960’s P50. They claim that it is street legal in the US and UK. The specs are underwhelming – 1 passenger, 3 wheels, 130 pounds total weight, 30mph top speed, fiberglass body, unspecified engine. And the really bad news is a reported price of $16,000. I think it’s cute, but way, way too small, and $16,000???

Help Name The 2 New Moons Of Pluto

plutoTwo new moons have recently been found orbiting Pluto and you can give your 2 cents on what to call them at PlutoRocks.com. Pick your two choices from a list or fill out a write-in ballot. Voting ends at noon EST on Monday, February 25th, 2013.

Images taken by the Hubble Space Telescope in 2011 and 2012 revealed two previously unknown moons of Pluto. So far, we have been calling them “P4” and “P5”, but the time has come to give them permanent names. If it were up to you, what would you choose? By tradition, the names of Pluto’s moons come from Greek and Roman mythology, and are related to the ancient tales about Hades and the Underworld.
