The White House Is Listed On Zillow

If you are not familiar with zillow.com, it is a site that catalogs real estate info (recent sales price, estimated value, house layout, etc.) on most homes in the US. It is an excellent tool to innocently snoop on your neighbors. It even has a listing of The White House at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave.

North Dakota May Not Be a State

According to Newser –

North Dakota has been a state since 1889—or has it? An 82-year-old government watchdog and local historian has been trying, for 16 years, to get someone to notice an important flaw in the state’s constitution that he says renders North Dakota’s very statehood invalid. The state constitution omits the executive branch, the governor, and other top officials when outlining who must take the oath of office, John Rolczynski notes. This puts it in opposition with the federal constitution, thus theoretically making the state’s version invalid. That could mean North Dakota is actually still a territory, ValleyNewsLive.com reports. But don’t worry, North Dakotans: State Senator Tim Mathern has introduced a bill to fix the wording, and voters will simply need to approve the constitutional amendment in November 2012.

A Pessimist’s Guide to The Next 10 Years

The title pretty much explains this excellent post. The author explains, in 45 short points, how the near future is going to suck more than the present does. Some of the points are spot on; already occurring – 6) The middle class is over. It’s not coming back or 32) Musical appreciation will shed all age barriers. Some points seem to be forward looking, but plausible – 20) North America can easily fragment quickly as did the Eastern Bloc in 1989 or 13) Enjoy lettuce while you still can. While others are just out there – 25) Dreams will get better or 27) Hooking up will become ever more mechanical and binary.

All in all, I found the post very entertaining. Don’t miss it.

DOJ Be Needin Ebonics Translators

According to TheSmokingGun –

AUGUST 23–The Department of Justice is seeking to hire linguists fluent in Ebonics to help monitor, translate, and transcribe the secretly recorded conversations of subjects of narcotics investigations, according to federal records. A maximum of nine Ebonics experts will work with the Drug Enforcement Administration’s Atlanta field division, where the linguists, after obtaining a “DEA Sensitive” security clearance, will help investigators decipher the results of “telephonic monitoring of court ordered nonconsensual intercepts, consensual listening devices, and other media”

Louisiana Targets Criminal Masterminds – Google Maps Users

According to TechDirt, a new law about to go into effect in Louisiana will add from 1 to 10 years to a prison sentence, if an online map was used in the process of committing the crime. The bill passed by a vote of 89-0. Apparently, in Louisiana, only criminal masterminds possess the skills needed to use Google Maps. This is another fine example of politicians being completely ignorant of technology.

6 Constitutional Amendments That Never Passed

An article in MentalFloss is an interesting, quick read. It outlines 6 proposed constitutional amendments that failed to pass. You may remember the Equal Rights Amendment from the 1970s and even D.C. statehood amendment, but the 4 older ones are rather obscure.
