Need A Job? India Is Hiring!

ComputerWorld reports –

U.S. companies have been hiring workers from India for years, especially graduates of U.S. universities. But Indian companies, as well as American firms operating in India, are now trying to convince some of them to return to India. A job fair at the San Jose Convention Center this weekend is focused on helping companies recruit Indian workers who may in the U.S. on a visa by informing them about the professional and economic opportunities back home. Organizers also stressed that the job fair is also open to anyone who is interested in working in India.

GOP Says Outsourcing Is Good – Let’s Outsource The Republicans

CBS reported –

Republicans, with help from a handful of Democrats, used a filibuster to block a measure that would have used the tax code to punish big companies that shut U.S. manufacturing plants and move the jobs overseas. Current tax law allows companies to benefit in a variety of ways when they move jobs overseas, including deducting the costs of closing American plants. The proposed bill would have raised taxes on companies that move manufacturing jobs out of the country and provide a tax incentive for companies that decide to bring them back.

Company Axes 40% of Staff – Board of Directors Get 50% Raises

KSDK reports-

Bridgeton-based KV Pharmaceuticals laid off 289 employees Wednesday. Company interim chief executive officer David Van Vliet issued a statement, saying, “Although this type of action is always difficult, we believe it is a necessary step to preserve our capital resources and to re-size our company to be in line with our current expectations of when and how we will be able to return to market.” The I-Team found out despite cutting nearly 40 percent of its current workforce, the company’s board of directors still found the cash to give themselves a hefty raise. According to the latest 10k SEC filing, the board of directors was paid $116,000 in 2009, but gave themselves a $60,000 raise as the company was involved in massive layoffs and faced an immediate future with no income.

Republican Senator Misses Basketball Game To Deny Unemployment Benefits To 1.2 Million Americans

The HuffingtonPost reports –

Jim Bunning, a Republican from Kentucky, is single-handedly blocking Senate action needed to prevent an estimated 1.2 million American workers from prematurely losing their unemployment benefits next month. And at one point during the debate, which dragged on till nearly midnight, Bunning complained of missing a basketball game. “I have missed the Kentucky-South Carolina game that started at 9:00,” he said, “and it’s the only redeeming chance we had to beat South Carolina since they’re the only team that has beat Kentucky this year.
