Airports are hell, but Singapore’s Changi Airport is—for the jet set—a little slice of travel heaven. The world’s best airport for the fourth consecutive year boasts a rooftop pool, 24-hour cinema, butterfly garden, and spas—all surrounded by lush vegetation to make you forget you’re stuck in a concrete and steel jungle waiting to board an aluminum tube. So if you’re Changi Airport and you want to top yourself, you have to go big. Bold. Ostentatious. You bring in WET, the water design firm that designs fountains for famously over-the-top places like the Bellagio, Burj Khalifa, and the Sochi Olympics. When the airport’s newest structure designed by architect Moshe Safdie opens in 2018, it will boast the Rain Vortex, the world’s tallest indoor waterfall.

SINGAPORE — Before the year is up, Singaporeans could be hopping on these driverless pod vehicles to get to school and work. The pods run on electricity, and are able to travel autonomously on smaller roads, such as those within a gated community or school campus. 2getthere, the Dutch maker of the pods, and Singaporean transportation operator SMRT on Wednesday announced they will be building 24-passenger cars that are slated to run commercially by the end of the year. They’ve established a new joint venture called 2getthere Asia that will operate and maintain the vehicles in the city state.

Designed by Arup, AECOM, and DPArchitects, this sprawling development doesn’t just include a 55,000-seat stadium—there’s also a network of pedestrian and cycling trails, infrastructure to hold all manner of games from cricket to rugby, a pool and a water park, a skate park, volleyball courts, space for canoeing and kayaking, a mall, and a huge rock climbing wall. And more. In short, it’s its own city devoted to sports.
