Bike Path In Poland Glows Blue

glowing-bike-lane-poland-s

According to TechCrunch –

The path is made of a light-emitting material that charges in the sun and can glow for up to 10 hours in the dark, bathing cyclists in a calming blue glow. The lane uses luminophores – chemicals that “ingest” light – to keep the bike path nicely lit at night. They chose blue to “match the Mazurian landscape” where lakes abound. You can read a bit more at Gazeta Wyborcza if your Polish isn’t too rusty or you can just bask in the cold beauty of a glowing bike lane in deepest Poland.

So You Want A New Bicycle And Have $11,000 Burning A Hole In Your Pocket

Pininfarina_bike-sFrom TheVerge –

Pininfarina is best known as Ferrari’s frequent collaborator, but the Italian design firm sketches a lot of other things, too — take the Pininfarina Fuoriserie, for instance, a bicycle that’s just a little fancier than your average fixie. Much of the steel frame is concealed with a walnut wood coating, for instance; the handlebars and seat are covered with a woven leather pattern. It’s beautiful, particularly with the combination of wood and bare metal on the frame that gives the Fuoriserie a bit of a retro-future feel. Only 30 will be made, which is probably just as well: the bike starts at €6,000 (about $7,500) and goes as high as €9,000 ($11,300) with electric motor assist. It’s built in collaboration with Italian manufacturer 43 Milano, which specializes in high-end bikes.

M-185 – The Only US Highway That Does Not Allow Motor Vehicles

From wikipedia –

According to the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT), M-185 is “the only state highway in the nation where motor vehicles are banned”. These restrictions on automobiles date back to the 1890s, and since the ban, only a few vehicles have been permitted on the island other than the city’s emergency vehicles. M-185 is a state trunkline highway in the U.S. state of Michigan that circles Mackinac Island, a popular tourist destination on the Lake Huron side of the Straits of Mackinac, along the island’s shoreline. A narrow paved road of 8.004 miles (12.881 km), it offers scenic views of the straits that divide the Upper and the Lower peninsulas of Michigan and Lakes Huron and Michigan. It has no connection to any other Michigan state trunkline highways—as it is on an island—and is accessible only by passenger ferry.

Inventor Plans To Produce Cardboard Bicycle

Engadget reported –

His (Izhar Gafni) maintenance-free bike uses a “secret” mix of organic materials to make it waterproof and fireproof, and is then lacquered to give it a friendlier appearance. It’s expected to cost a mere $20 and weigh about 20 lbs (9 kg) — that’s 65 percent lighter than an average metal ride. In fact, this bicycle doesn’t use any metal parts at all — the solid tires are made of reconstituted rubber and a car timing belt is used instead of a chain.
