BoredPanda reported –

The Great Gallery of Toledo Museum of Art, Ohio, is usually filled with classic art pieces that date back decades and even hundreds of years back. But now it’s been refreshed by this gorgeous man-made rainbow placed right in the middle of it. The artist behind it is Gabriel Dawe, a Mexican-born creator who specializes in mixed media and installations made out of colored threads which look like light beams bouncing around confined spaces.

This Watercolor Printer Is A Real Thing

WatercolorPrinter

From the WaterColorBot site –

Launched in 2013 on Kickstarter, the WaterColorBot is a collaborative project from Evil Mad Scientist Laboratories and Super Awesome Sylvia — a friendly art robot that moves a paint brush to paint your digital artwork onto paper, using a set of watercolor paints. The WaterColorBot works with standard and common watercolor paints, pens, and paper, so that you never need to purchase expensive or proprietary supplies. It is made in the USA with a tough and sturdy wooden frame built to last for years of use.

While a robotic painting “printer” can be an incredibly fun thing on its own, the WaterColorBot is also a genuine (if simple and friendly) computer-automated, numerically controlled (CNC) machine– and that lets you do some amazing things. For an example, take a look at the two paintings shown above– they are nearly perfect copies. One was painted right after the other. With the WaterColorBot, you can easily make an extra painting for Grandma. (And you can always save the file for later, just in case the dog eats the one on the fridge.)

Worlds Smallest Handmade Sculptures By UK Artist

Willard Wigan from Birmingham, UK, has created the worlds smallest piece of artwork – a sculpted gold motorbike inside a hollowed out piece of human stubble. The artwork has been created from a flake of gold from a chain which has been crafted into the shape of a chopper and inserted into a hollowed out fragment of stubble from Willards chin which measures 0.0035inch. To create the masterpiece Willard had to hold his breathe and work between heartbeats.

XnSketch – FreeFile Review

FFR-WP-logoxnsketch-logoXnSketch is a program that turns any photo into a drawing; producing a work of art that requires no talent – just a click or two. Previously, I reviewed a similar program, FotoSketcher, and will use it as a benchmark for XnSketch. Both programs offer about 20 presets that work very well without additional tweaks. XnSketch’s adjustments are basic photo-type adjustments (brightness, contrast, saturation), but FotoSketcher has adjustments for the way that the preset effects are applied. That makes  FotoSketcher more versatile and more complicated to use. Both programs have attractive, fairly simple interfaces, but most will find XnSketch easier to navigate.

What’s good – XnSketch is dead simple – just select the style of drawing and save. It is available for Windows, Mac and Linux. Presets such as halftone and “Obama Hope poster” are not available in FotoSketcher.

What’s bad – XnSketch lacks any adjutments to the drawing parameters. It feels poorly written or unfinished (labels on halftone presets are misspelled “Haltfone”). Finally, the ‘Save’ function is a bit wonky – it defaults to a 512 pixel size and will not automatically append the correct file extension onto the saved file. The saved dimension can be changed by clicking the down arrow next to the ‘Save’ icon and choosing ‘Original’ before saving.

– – – – The Bottom Line – – – –

Despite its problems, XnSketch is an excellent solution for someone wanting to create a drawing as easily as is possible. It produces quality drawings quickly, simply. Those wanting more control over their drawings will prefer FotoSketcher.

Artwork From Electronic Components

ThisIsColossal reports that Leonardo Ulian, is an artist who carefully solders a myriad of computer components, circuitry and microchips to create these precisely symmetrical mandalas. The straight lines and symmetry may not be everyone’s cup of tea, but the choice of media is certainly unusual.
