Dr. Poon On Trial For Sexual Assault

REGINA — Regina doctor Edward Poon says his examinations of six female patients in the winter of 2008 were not motivated by any kind of sexual purpose, and weren’t intended to sexually arouse either himself or the women. “There’s nothing sexual,” Poon testified Monday, as his sexual assault trial entered its third week. Poon flatly denied some of the allegations made by the women — including that he put his head on one woman’s chest to listen to her heart. He also denied simultaneously touching the breasts and pelvic areas of any of the women, and testified he always wore a glove on his right hand during the examinations, contrary to what some of the complainants previously told court. Poon said he checked for signs of infection with two of the complainants’ clitoral piercings, but did not intentionally touch any of the other women’s clitoral areas during the examinations.
