Lol, I hate using Apple products for a lot of reasons. They try to make their products “simple” when in actuality they are just incapable. You pay twice as much for a mac with the same power as a PC. When you have a problem on a pc, you can fix it. When you have a problem on a mac, you restart it or send it off to get repairs because you have no idea what to do about it since apple is too “simple” to let you know why it’s not working correctly. Apple only cares about themselves and goes out of their way to make sure that once you buy an Apple product, you are stuck paying them more and more money through lack of compatibility with non-Apple products. I have honestly tried to like the macbook. I’ve tried using one for a while to see if I could get used to it, but there are so many things about it that just pissed me off. PC is just so much better. I’ve been using PC since I was 5 and never had any serious problems on the PC. Using a mac for 30 minutes pissed me off more than I’ve ever been pissed off from using a PC. PC is way more compatible and customizable, not to mention a much better option for gaming. The Mac looks nice, but it really can’t do anything better than the PC.
I think most people who like mac are just dumb people who don’t know how to use a computer. That’s why mac users like apple so much and also rant about windows’ problems because they cause problems when trying to use windows. Mac is good for them because the mac doesn’t cause as many problems. It’s like taking a child away from the driver’s seat of a car and giving him a toy car instead. A shiny, white toy car.

I used both, and my Windows PC beat the Mac in After Effects render time.
My PC beat the Mac in 3D simulation and presentations.
Mac will run nicely until you tell it to run something complex. The Mac user is busy making his home movies and pretty pictures, I’m busy running 3D Simulations and processing Geodatabases. I don’t use Mac because Macs have trouble running 3D and computationally heavy programs.
XP is still a beast running at a minimum 128 mb RAM
I am not sure of the crAPPLE users know that the crApple was design for people that are not too bright, you know ,easy…one button incase you get confused. But whats funny is every time I go to a iStore, I give them the iFinger by listng all the iViruses (http://www.iantivirus.com/threats/) on there biggest screen. Found that on http://blog.webanddata.com, who also talks about security issues on the crAPPLE.
Viruses actually dont have to be even produced on a crAPPLE, you can develop the applications (Viruses/Malware are applications) on Hackingtosh/VRware. It’s open season for apple users, and they cant do any about it because they dont have the technical skillset or the creativity to dodge that bullet. The fact that crApple doesnt have its own OS base, its using UNIX and in additon its running on a PC…because INTEL is PC, makes it even easier to maniplulate the system. All hardware in a crAPPLE are infact PC products. So, its easy to get around that front end/crAPPLE display. Its open season and thats why there are ANTI-VIRUS Products sold in the iSTORE. If you cant figure out that TOSHIBA, SONY etc. produce better products, then your a sheep that being hammered from behind.

So check it out, I wanted to download a file from my google docs account to my ipad… can’t do it. Then later I wanted to upload a photo I took on my Ipad to google docs… can’t do it. Then I figured maybe I can use my wifi connect to transfer the photo to my pc… can’t do it. So nowadays I just let my kids play with the ipad and I bought a real tablet that runs Android. Guess what, I can do all those things I needed to do that the ipad couldn’t. Peace.
I ran both MacOSX and Windows 7 on a Macbook. The performance between the two was tremendous, Dungeon Defenders on Mac performed horribly with extremely irritating screeching sounds whilst Windows ran the game perfectly without any hassle.
Windows has a lot more functionality, the only thing I can approve of in Mac is the sleek design of the machine, and that Forrest Gump owns the company.

My thoughts exactly. I have been an Apple tech before for 9+ years. They distill so much confidence in people about their products being superior to anything else, that their customer base never takes the time to learn a computer. I am still a firm believer that people need to spend time learning their computers. A Mac experiences file corruption as well. If you don’t believe me, boot the Mac to single user mode (Apple+A at startup) and run fsck_hfs -r /dev/rdisk0s2 (if that is your file system mount) and see what it fixes, or problems that you didn’t even know that you had. They pull the wool over your eyes and tell you that their products are perfect. That is my two cents worth.

First apple product purchased today for daughter. iPod touch. Got thru setup and attempted to download a free game app. “unknown error has occured” tried a reset, tried another download, more unknown errors. Never had this on two androids. Downloaded itunes and safari on pc(xp). Open itunes, error message, close itunes, another error. Reopen, error, error, error. Called the store where purchased,they don’t have a clue but say the atrix I have is twice as good as ipod. Ipod getting returned tomarrow, safari and itunes uninstalled. I saw more error messages from ipod than,…well come to think of it neither android has ever had an error message. Thats some good marketing when you can build a billion dollar corporation selling shit.

i used to love apple for there customer service. It has been getting worse and worse by the month. Maybe their market share is growing and they cannot keep up the staff. But remember when I used to brag about how impressive there support staff was. Now you cannot talk to anyone on the phone or in the store without waiting for over half an hour. They have become more concerned with share priced and wall street headlines than actually providing a good product back with great support. I hope thier share prices skyrocket until the bubble burst and everyone who invested is left with nothing. Service and support, and quality got them to where they are. Now it is all about money and i hope they loose everything.

I have used Apple Products from 2007 – present. Up until OS X Lion appeared on the scene, I consider OS X to be superior to Microsoft Windows XP and then Vista. Its usability is much more intuitive than windows and being based on BSD unix, it is much easier to interface to un*x / Lin*x based web servers.
For those who have used OS X Lion, it is full all intense purposes a complete and utter failure on the Apple’s part. Not since version 9 has the OS been plagued by so many missteps. There have been bugs in the package updates for the OS (i.e. 10.7.3) as well as in software addon upgrades such as iPhoto and the security holes identified in OS X java. This as irrevocably tarnished the reputation that Apple built between 2007 – 2010.
Attempting to implement iOS style functionality into a laptop environment with no touch screen is pure idiocy, though Microsoft seems to have caught on to the pure idiocy for those who have looked at Windows 8.
Since OS X Lion Server has its own share of problems. Reduced functionality, insistent corruption of the operating system permissions, inexplicable hard disk failures, and finally its only availability through an online AppStore that indefinitely links the software to your personal AppleID. That is correct, if you have purchased OS X Lion Server through the App Store, neither the software or the license is transferable to a new owner. It cannot be burned to CD and it may not be transferred to a different AppleID.
I always thought apple was way to proud of their hardware due to the pricing structure, but I never considered them to be unethical. The sales process for OS X Lion server has made me reconsider my opinion of Apple’s ethics when it comes to business practices and how they sell their software. My initial opinion was that Apple was a trend-setter in innovation, which in a lot of ways they still are, but innovating products without innovating business practices to make a product more flexible and useful does very little for the public in general and nothing more than making the life IT professional more frustrating.
Some may say that this downturn in Apple is due to the death of Steve Jobs. I would simply disagree by saying that while Steve Jobs was a unique individual, surely he was not the only visionary in the world?

I purchased the iPhone 4S approximately 6 weeks ago. I did not purchase the apple care as I was confident that between the supposed quality of apple products and that I take care of my things very well, that the phone should last at least a year.I also bought it an otterbox to protect it. A couple of days ago, I went to wipe the outside of the otterbox with a soft napkin and immediately the screen cracked from one end to another. this was not dropped. My guess is that it was climate related going from 65 degree weather to the upper 90′s, or maybe a defective phone. when I took it back to verizon to find out my options, they recommended the apple store. I took it there and made an “appointment” with the “technician” who was available in 20 minutes. He looked at it and said they dont repair it but can sell me a new phone. Even though its not even 2 months old,no warranty, plus clearly the guy who was about as much as a technician as a houseplant did not believe me that the phone was not dropped. the rest of the phone is in new condition. he said there are places that repair them ( why doesnt apple?) but could not tell me who. The vibe I got was oh well since I cant sell you anything,NEXT- what a pretentious store, when you dont repair but only replace a product, what is the point of making someone wait an extra 20 minutes? I found a cell phone repair place who replaced the screen in under an hour, good as new no thanks to apple. the moral of the story, unless you let them extort you to pay for a warranty that most other companies include, once you give them your money and go, you are SOL.

Graduating with a B.S. in Computer Engineering on 5/20, hell yeah. So it’s safe to assume I actually know what I am talking about. I’ll try to be unbiased.
Ok. All you fanboys need to shut up (both Apple and Microsoft). Apple is successful because their products are sleek and simple, end of story. That said, anyone who wants to be able to customize settings and set up everything the way THEY want should not buy a Mac. They are made to be idiot proof, which makes them “superior” to PC’s in that respect. However, this means they cannot do many things that other products have been able to do for YEARS. Also, Mac can charge whatever the hell they want. They know that the legions of technically incompetent morons who are afraid to mess with/tweak their computer will continue to buy their outrageously overpriced products because they don’t know any better. They are actually quite similar to Monster (a wire/cable company, I believe they also make the absurdly overrated Dr. Dre headphones) in this respect. Macs also use an old Unix kernel, with rock-solid stability (but this is a total ripoff, if you want a *nix OS, use an older Ubuntu or something, Gnome 2 is as close to perfect as it gets when it comes to UI, and it runs most Windows apps almost perfectly with WINE). All of this makes Macs outdated (as far as kernel optimization and speed goes) and downright clunky when it comes to advanced configuration, but also idiot proof and easy to pick up and use (although I admit, I hate the UI, it’s just unnecessarily hard and time consuming to do advanced configuration).
If you are not afraid to get your hands even a little bit dirty, a PC is much more useful, it’s as simple as that. PC’s have the (dis)advantage of a much larger user base, which gives them MUCH more cross-compatibility with other computers as well as more (and better) applications. Don’t believe me? Try to use Safari (trash), and then use Chrome, Firefox, or even the notorious (but much improved) IE, and just try to convince yourself that Safari is superior. This is why most Mac users use applications such as MS Office, because it is simply better and more universal than anything Apple can come up with. But Windows’ large user base also leads to malicious coders exploiting the OS in order to bring down a person’s computer or even steal sensitive information, but this is quite easy to avoid with some quite honestly excellent freeware security software (Malwarebytes, anyone?). However, a large user base also means MS is forced to provide it’s many super-users with better functionality and configuration options, but the flip side is that if you don’t know what you are doing, you will be banging your head against the wall for a long time and can corrupt important OS files. For example, I use my laptop all the time with no problems (other than lcd screen and headphone jack problems haha, the school laptops suck all the dicks), but my technologically-challenged mother has all sorts of software problems using a similar computer, which usually results in me fixing it.

Apple products has always been desirable products ever since the ipod, but here is what started to bother me. I owned a macbook, ipad, macbook pro, iphone and numerous numbers of ipods, but I was disappointed by one incident. Apple iphone 4G was not suppose to be sold the way it is as the reception device was placed so that when held the reception becomes noticabally weak. I personally think that Apple is a design based company and that is what they are good at, but selling and producing a mistaken product is just ignorant. Knowing that it would sell anyway is being irresponsible as a billion dollar corp. They need to stop with the sueing and talking as design speaks for itself…I’m getting sick of the way they are abusing loyal consumers..Good bye Apple, the company should have died a long time ago.

Interesting read – both the list and the comments, so I’ll respond to each.
The list makes for good reading – at least entertaining. Many points are simply incorrect, which is a shame because there are other points that could have been made. e.g. – Power users use Pathfinder. Some might, most don’t. Other points are either partially correct or are just a personal opinion – enough to be argued. Some other points are correct, but are ápple issues’ that most or all other companies are guilty of. Example of this is child labor, some crap products (hi-fi, though I haven’t used one myself – I’ll just take your word that it is no good). As for the “Sneaky Installer”, what do you call the google toolbar for IE?! Then there are the points that are dead-on (or don’t go far enough). Regional pricing, locked prices – the usual bastard corporate mentality. Slave labor? how about supporting black markets in 3rd world countries!
Anyway, interesting read. As for all the people that have responded thus far, Apple products are what they are, so take it or leave it – not liking something doesn’t make it crap. These responses seem to bash one or the other. I’ll ignore random insults without context. As for the people who have been screwed by Apple, I feel for you but don’t believe you’ll get better elsewhere – you’ll simply be charged less for the privelage. I know – I’m one of the poor pricks that bought a custom G5 for 5K so after the 1 month wait, a further 6 weeks for it to be returned after DOA, 3 break-downs during warranty, no further OS support after 3 years and a final death 3 yeas & 3 months, I know how expensive a reaming from Apple can be.
I use and support both sides of the field and neither is really ‘better’ than the other. Both sides have great innovation and are just as funcional as eachother. I did read a comment about macs not being customizable but with the right skills, they can – just different coding. Both have advanages over the other and when either fail, you’ll be up shit creek if you are not well backed up or insured.

The hardware is basically the same, you can run both on the same machine with bootcamp, and they usually run ok, but you can run OSX on a PC or in VM. that BLOWS! with everything going virtual apple will die off too, not the steve (blow)jobs is gone. give it 5 years. I have friends that love that crap, and always advise them against buying it.

Something I find very revealing about Apple’s computing products is their own marketing. Take a look at the technical specs they provide on their own hardware and features. They are very opaque at providing information that can be compared equally against PC systems. And, where they lack hardware completely, they conveniently omit any reference. The own omissions, put against the backdrop of some very polished marketing, make these lack of features appear nonessential, when in fact they are standard features on competing PC platforms. Consider Apple’s omission of both optical drives and ethernet ports on their latest Macbook Pro line.
Agree with everything. I tried to redownload an app I ALREADY BOUGHT, and apple declined it because my Visa Gift Card (what I use to buy apps) was empty when I tried to download a song USING A CREDIT I HAD! I’m Pi$$ed off right now, and I now officially hate apple.

Most people buy it for the same reason the buy clothes from abercrombie/louis vitton. Apple has marketed their products as style options. They really haven’t produced anything bleeding edge or that innovative, they mostly reshape previous ideas and sell it as the next shiny thing.
All top companies have dirt. They got there some how and they must have cut some corners. Apple certainly isn’t the evilest company out there.
Out of the box a mac may have more functionality. However, looking at the end game windows has more customization in terms of programs that can be installed and used, Linux has more scalibity and mac’s just become something to show to your friends. Ipods, phones, pads can all be bested by some other device if your willing to setup it up. However at the end of the day the product just has to work. Apple USED to be good at this. There reliability is slowly heading out much like what happend with Toyata. However, if you just sit in front of your computer and browse the web/listen to music you would be hard pressed these days to say that mac/windows/linux is superior they all have their quirks. You just pay more to have them on an apple product.

That said, I’m getting tired of their whiny BS and pointing patent fingers at other devices that have the potential to outdo them. I like their products and the way they work (for the most part), but Apple as a company is beginning to piss me off. They run their business, products, and AppStore like a dictatorship, and once a customer’s life has been integrated into Apple’s system (via apps, iCloud, etc). After a bit of time and headaches transferring my data and important information to more universal sources, I’ve never been so curious about Android in my life. Now to take care of pesky #24 from this list: Apple really knows how to screw their loyal customers out of money should said customers wise up to the game Apple’s running.

Besides any real computer fanatic has a PC they custom built or custom ordered (Dell Alienware, Xoticpc.com, Cyberpower.com, iBuypower.com, Newegg), which can probably max any game out and perfrom well on benchmarks for half the price of an Apple computer.
Gaming laptops? Apple has no market there and its becoming big.
Tablets and other mobile devices? Well apple dosent have the Tegra 3 processor in their iPoops like the soon to be released Android equiped, ASUS-Google Nexus 7. Best spec tablet ever for 7in and very cheep.
Bottom line, PC is the best. Honestly its user friendly if you just spend a little bit of time on it. And worst comes to worse by Windows for Dummys or something. Ahhhh… reading this has made me feel so much better. I’ve been using Apples since 1984… and Windows Machines… and linux… not to mention Commodore 64, Zenith Heathkit, TRS -80, yeah… I’m old. Anyway, I have to say… I ordered an Air for my wife off the Apple site today… tried to call customer service to make a change cause I realized… oh fuck you can’t upgrade the ram, on hold for 30 minutes, then they hung up… after I heard their French customer service message? WTF? Then on hold AGAIN for 30 minutes… “Sorry, in the time we’ve kept you on hold… you order has been pulled and can’t be changed.”

Well, I have to congradulate apple on their ipods, very convenient, but for their capabilities theyre not so great.
I especially dislike the programming features of the ipod/pad series. So i often find myself tinkering with a TI-84 to see what it can do.
Also the Apple series are way too linear for most people. What is up with the unchangeable hardware? It takes all of the funout of having a computer.
Although the mac is very convenient when taking notes in a college course, it cannot beat a PC at much.
Overall Apple should stop making mac and stay with iPods because Macs are just too expensive and have to be replaced too often for anyone but sheep to want to buy.

I hate apple products, company and store. My kids have Ipods, and used to have iphones, We have had nothing but trouble with iphones and I hate the apple store and its Apps.
I love the fact that I can put in any cd I own or any music I bought online, into my pc and place it on any pc, our blackberry’s, my kids galaxy’s and my tablets, and do it in an instant, and none of them have any problems or comunication problems. I don’t have to go through apple’s webstore, I can also convert them to put on apple with my pc, but if I buy something from the applestore, and place it on ipod, its like pulling teeth to change it to pc and android based products.
Applestore has to ok everything and make everything confusing to share with family members.
I hate the applestore and their stupid itunes cards, that never work. I have seen my kids throw their galaxies half way across the parking lot accidentally, and they didn’t break and still work. You drop an iphone ore ipod and it breaks into a million pieces.

I have owned my own digital forensics lab for the past 5 years, when we review our equipment upgrades annually we have started to realize that not a single one of our specialized software is supported on any Mac platform and the software available on Mac is only compatible with Mac based investigations. Our PC’s and Linux machines, however can utilize the full range of software available as well as investigate any Mac OS machines.
Apple can not create new ideas any more cause Steve Jobs passed away ! that’s why they suing Samsung and other cell phone companies! I am going to buy new phone this Friday, i will choose Samsung Galaxy S III.

linux is the best. open source, free, many different versions and ubuntu is lightweight, user friendly, and is very flexible, the only downfall is probably how its not as widely known as windows so all games are for windows since macs suck so much. half of apple is just making things so linear that people who dont know how to learn what does what can use them, the other half is “innovative” technology they stole from things made years before
Just to clarify Apple people, windows is an operating system not hardware. In terms of hardware there is stuff way superior to Apple like Dell Alienware, most HP/Compaq products, Samsung and a ton of others. I personally use Linux Mint and before you insult it your precious Mac OS X is based on a Linux Kernel.

Omg apple sucks! I had phone 3gs and 4g. Typing sucked on it! My iphone 3gs had issues and they made me do some stupid update that took an hour.. And my phone got worse after that!. I told them to undo the update and they couldn’t. I went to store w my own windows pc bc they are way too cheap to let me use their computer there. They didn’t do anything itunes were too difficult to download and use..
Then I ditched apple and got best android phone. On android one day I got some update for ice cream sandwiche. I downloaded it and didn’t like and decided to try to undo it to ginger bread again. Went to store and they undid the update in 30 mins! And no I did not have to take my pc to the store! So you suck apple!

Apple users can say what they want about Microsoft (I hate them too!), but the fact of the matter is that they actually WROTE THEIR OWN OPERATING SYSTEM, from the ground up. OS X is literally just a pretty gui for Unix. It is good looking, but locked the fuck down, man. Not to mention even more resource intensive than Winblows, and that’s already really, really bad. I’ve been using Ubuntu for like 3 years now with a half gig of ram. That is half the minimum requirement for OS X. Linux is like a straight razor; if you don’t decapitate yourself, it give you the best shave ever. Windows is like a safety/disposable razor; easy to use, somewhat subpar shave. OS X — it’s like a bowling pin.
On the other hand, Apple does produce highly superior hardware (except the whole ‘no DIY fixes’ thing), they’re just unable to use it to it’s full potential, which is a damn shame.

Im a big Apple fan, least I was. When I bought my first phone I just needed a device to make calls with, preferably a nice looking phone that made me look rich lol! I had a crappy boost mobile, can you blame me..? Keep that in mind, a phone is a phone, iPhone is nothing more than a status apparatus, an accessory, thats why it makes so much money, they can throw a 5 hour speech about how amazing the new iPhone is but in reality its the same thing just dressed a little differently, that old boost mobile phone can perform the same main function just as well if not better, I never got dropped calls back then and the battery lasted longer. Sick of hearing about how incredible their “designs” are, different size screens lol! Siri is the gayest gimmick ever imo, every time I see someone talking with their phone with that look on their face I just want to head-butt them to death. Its a rectangular phone which apparently they have a patent on geometry so everyone else needs to make circular phones (Samsung!), oval? Maybe octagonal ones, perhaps a concave design, we’ll end up with boomerangs before we know it, its ridiculous. Smart phones have gone about as far as smart phones will go, you wouldn’t attach 10 foot wings on the side of your car just for the hell of it would you..? I have an iPod touch, and there are so many features that are annoying as hell on it, including the fact that photo albums cannot be deleted from the iPod, they must be deleted PICTURE BY PICTURE or through iTunes. iTunes is annoying enough with the fact that, as they stated, it is not compatible with ANYTHING else, only song bought from iTunes. The iPod is also annoying in that practically everything beneath the surface is badly made or annoying as hell to work. iCloud only stores data from applications such as Notes and Safari which, to a casual user, takes up a fraction of the 5 gigabytes it allows for. The app store has many problems, too, with apps shooting up to the top of the lists for a day and then falling into obscurity. iOS 6 changed this, but there are still many problems.
i have 2 iPods.. both jailbroken a 2nd gen and a 4th gen.
What i don’t like about apple is how controlling their products is Jailbreak and BOOM!! i have rotating icons, a file system browser, a custom theme, custom battery image, custom boot logo…. should i go on?

So glad to hear there are others out there who have had similar horrible experiences to mine. I hope Apple CRUMBLES and soon. Their customer service is so shitty! I received an ipad as a gift and opened it and didn’t like it as the wifi gave me a headache…it was purchased at Future Shop who said that I should go to the Mac store and they would help me out. They totally didn’t and said they don’t know why Future Shop said to go to them (pass the buck much?). Anyway the holier than thou salesgirl said I should have no trouble ‘selling’ it! It was a perfectly good new ipad and I was forced to being their fucking salesperson and losing $125 in the process on a product that was bought less than 60 days before…nice way to lose a customer…for life! I was hoping they would offer me an instore credit and then I would have gladly upgraded my old MAC…but nothing, nothing! I went home and cried I was so upset with being treating so badly by this piece of shit place! NO MORE! Stand up for your rights people…stop being a fruit fly…this place doesn’t give a damn about you!!! I wrote a scathing email on apple.com but of course heard nothing back as they don’t care at all about their customers, bastards, bastards, bastards…never again!!! The fact is apple as a company is very successful because the are marketing geniuses. Anybody that can sell you something behind the power curve of other products and tell you it’s new and you buy it clearly knows what they are doing. Now, im posting this from my iPhone 4s and I own the ipad2 and let me say I looooove my iPad. I own a hp desktop. I have Samsung electronics all in my house, I love my tech stuff and I’m only 25. I remember the bull shit and the fall of IBM apple has never always been better for the idiots that say it was. I can’t say much on the iMac verses PC other Mac is just a pc with an apple on the outside, right? I mean to each it’s own but I got the money but I’ll be damn if I get a 2000 dollar desktop I can’t do 90% of my tasked unless I’m running windows anyway. I’m not genius but the products it produce aren’t innovative they are just what everybody else has but now apple has it. If people would just admit they just like the name or the brand there would be less name calling and product bashing.
But my beef is with the phones. How many people don’t get the best out of their iPhone until the unlock it. I love the battery life and the retina display of my iPhone but damn apple why the fuck do you lack style on everything else, I mean how can you drop the 4 and I had the epic with the panoramic camera in 2010 and you just get it in 2012 and you treat it like you found a new planet. Get off your own nuts and make something new and stop trapping people in ignorant bliss. My wife’s tablet may not match up in display and battery life of my iPad but I find myself using that over mine. I’m a guy that believes you should get the most out of what you pay for but who still has the 3gs……….. What’s the point of you having a long lasting product if it’s out dated when it’s released. I can’t wait to get rid of my hipster I devices because they lack freedom, diversity, style, creativity, and they have developed zombie-like followers that truly think its the best thing since sliced bread. Apple won’t miss me and if you or anybody that never seen or heard of any company and you dropped a phone in their face with 2 buttons and a droid, that iPhone would be a very nice looking paper weight.

As a software developer I can say Apple’s business model is truly horrible.
Wrote an app that will run on the browser of Apple/Android & Blackberry devices…all works OK. Built the native android app and distributed…all fine. To submit an App for the iPad/iPhone to the iOS Provisioning Portal to get it in the App Store you need a……Mac. You cannot submit an app for approval to Apple without using a Mac….WTF!
My brother who edits TV programs and has trumpeted Apple products for years will freely admit that Safari and Thunderbird are junk as are the Windows tools and certain builds of Snow leopard.
Don’t get me wrong, hardware and OS wise the iPad and iPhone are nice pieces of Kit but the corporate model behind is horrible and designed round protectionism and closed platform.
Android and Windows8 will take hold eventually as businesses get fed up with trying to get apps for internal business use on to the platform.
The consumer market is a different story but just look at Samsung’s sales. I have an HTC Desire HD and will move the the Samsung S3 4G.
I’ve also seen rational open minded people turn into brain washed product evangelists for Apple once they buy a device, it’s spooky and quite disturbing. It’s almost like a cult (like Scientology).
Nothing wrong with buying a iPhone or iPad, they are nice devices. Just don’t spend your time telling other why they are better when they really aren’t, that’s the truth of the matter.
@Taz, it is interesting b/c I am one of those brain-washed persons you mentioned. I had been a Windows programmer for 10 years, absolutely in love with programming. I was very open-minded, so about 6 months ago, I bought my first MacBook Pro, with the original intention of trying something fresh, and if Apple is good enought, I will use Mac / Windows in parallel.
It was extremely painful to move from Windows to Mac. After 1 month of re-learning how to use a computer, I threw my PC into the corner. The last thing I did with it was to copy all my data to my new Mac. Then I decided to move on to iPhone development. Another month, and I switched to an iPhone development job. Now I own 3 iPhones, 4 iPads, and a 2TB Time Capsule for development. Buying that Mac was one of the best decisions I ever made.
There have been enough points made here, so I won’t add one more. It is probably all about personal preferences. There’s one interesting point I want to note thought…
Besides programming, I am also a teacher (actually that Mac was recommended by one of my students) and most my (highschool) students prefer Mac. I have never seen a student coming to class with a PC. The only ones who use PC – at home – are game addicted boys.
I don’t know how old people here are, or how many years you guys have been stuck with PCs, but let’s imagine this situation: an absolute novice, never used a computer before, is presented with a PC and a Mac… We all know what his choice would be.
What I think here… you people here, including the author of the article, can’t keep up with Apple simply because you can’t give up the PC. You had a mental image that any real computing device *must somehow resemble* a PC, or Windows, MS, whatever. YOU BELIEVE THAT ANYTHING DIFFERENT FROM A PC IS NOT A SERIOUS COMPUTER, OR IT IS FOR NOVICE. You let your past experience interfere with your present decisions. You have made your choice before you ever knew about Apple. But future belongs to the younger… And that’s why I would say that Apple is way more innovative than other companies. Because of that “PC glitch” in your brain, you are incapable of seeing the trend Apple is creating, the trend that I and other Apple supporters can see. I you want something new, you need to get rid of the old.

beginning to take hold), I said I’ve seen rational minded people (who trumpted open standards and free platforms in two cases that spring to mind) change their opinions almost overnight, not all Apple product users exhibit this behavior, plenty say they are unhappy with the product, some love them. It’s just a product but has a cult like following with some users not all, don’t take it personally.
I’m glad your investment in Apple products is working for you, my point which I maintain is that Apple operates on a protectionist business model and as a software dev of 15 I think that sucks as it makes your life hard as a professional, Microsoft used to behave in this manner but are slowly waking up and smelling the coffee although they still lapse into some bad old ways (HTML5 standards spring to mind).
What a student chooses (it will be fashion led to some degree) and what full-time IT pro’s choose isn’t a great comparison. Just because your students like them isn’t a great argument for why Mac’s are better…..that’s like saying my dad is bigger than yours
Fuck both Mac and PC. I use Linux for most of what I do. And I have learned more about development in the few years of using Linux than I ever would have.
Let’s be clear, by definition a Mac or a machine running Linux is a PC (Personal Computer) – I’m Just Saying. Mac is over priced and under preforms and Linux cant run native versions of Microsoft Apps.
Also, Android, just simply rocks!! Any Samsung phone running Ice Cream Sandwich or better beats the living heck out of iPhone any day of the week! I had features on my Samsung Infuse that Apple is celebrating in the NEW iPhone 5 a year before the iPhone 5 came out!

as far as iphones go,Average consumer has gotten smarter with technology, they want more functions on their phones(not just calling,messaging, and internet). all you apple users dont even know the power of android. on android you actually are able to do all tasks you are able to do on a computer and thats truly considered a smartphone.
